Announcing the Woodlawn Community Gospel Choir
We are happy to announce the formation of the Woodlawn Community Gospel Choir. A lot of excitement is happening in Woodlawn. The community is coming together in ways most believe were next to impossible just a few years ago. The Woodlawn Community Gospel Choir is just another positive step towards the total revitalization and rejuvenation of one of Birmingham’s most historic communities.
The Woodlawn Community Gospel Choir will be open to anyone age 16 and older with a close and continuous affiliation with the greater Woodlawn community, including residents of East Avondale, Oak Ridge Park, and South Woodlawn. Others who may qualify include owners or employees of any establishment in greater Woodlawn; those with membership in any church located in greater Woodlawn; those who serve any civic or social organization in the area, such as the YWCA, Dream Center, REV, or Woodlawn United; or those parents, advisory board members, or boosters for Hayes, Putnam, Oliver, Avondale, Ossie Ware, or Woodlawn High schools.
The first rehearsal will take place on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the beautiful new choir room at Woodlawn High School, located at 5620 1st Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35212. This is a come-one-come-all invitation to participate. No individual will be turned away for a lack of prior singing experience.
